March...ing on together! PDF E-mail

Just playing with words here above. It is the month of March,- right... and "Marching On Together" is the Battle-Cry for my beloved football-club Leeds United from England.

For some years back Leeds was one of the most feared for and respected clubs in the world. Then came a period with financial disasters and scandals and now we are way down in the leage-system. But if you are a real football supporter you don´t change sides. In your lives you may perhaps change girl/boyfriends from time to time, but you never turn your back to your Club. Those are the rules of life !!!

The music industry is different. Band members come and go all the time. Friends become enemies and split from one another. Luckily I have not experienced too much of that, but it is a fact though. Maybe this big differense is the reason for my love for football,- Loyalty!

Anyway,- besides the people that I love, music is the most important thing in my life. And I know that I will keep singing for as long as I breathe and am able to stand on my own two feat. Now you have been warned!, so be aware...

After a slow start of the year ( no gigs in January ) things are now piling up. Been to Iceland two times already and there is more to come. The Queen-Tribute last Thursday was fun to do. About 2500 happy Queen-fans celebrating and paying their respect to one of the real big giants of Rock´n-Roll. I fronted this event along with Hera Björk,- came second in the Danish ESC-finals this year, and Magni, a cool rock´n roller who did real well in"American Rock Star some 3-4 years ago. We had a great band and a choir of 50 people behind us and it really gave me some goose-bumps.

My plans for the anniversary concert are comming along fine. I am very thrilled to have my old Metal-Band "Artch" with me once again of course. The event will take place in "Austurbær", a rather small concert arena (560 seats) but with great sound and good seats for everybody. My original plans were for a bigger arena, but the financial crisis world wide,- and not the least in Iceland have forced me to be careful. I don´t wanna risk losing too much money, so therefor I am playing it safe. I played that same arena with Ken Hensley in April last year, and therefor I know what to expect and I look so forward to this. It´s gonna be a GAS!

You know that song "Undir Regnboganum" that I wrote the lyrics to, is doing very well in Iceland. I was actually quite pleased to get the second place in the Icelandic finals. Here in Norway many seem quite convinced that their man will win in Moscow and I hear that in Sweden people are also cheering their song forward. "The Battle Of Scandinavia" just around the corner!!!

I really miss the "old" ESC. ( Sigh ! )You know when everyone sang in their own language and the songs could not be heard before the competition. Maybe a bit old-fashioned point of view, but I mean it just the same. Just look at the finals here in Norway... The media and everyone else had already "decided" that this particular song would win ( as it should - it was the best song by far )... so there was no excitement. what so ever.  Do you know where I was during the finals ??? Just outside my house getting tons of snow away from my porche and my parking place. I came in all warm and sweaty - just in time to see the repeat of "Fairy-tale" and that was enough really. No - give me Sandy Shaw without shoes, or even Johnny Logan once again and I will start watching ESC again.

And speaking of working up a sweat... next week I am going to do some work for a guy I know here in Gressvik. Just the regular up at seven to do some carpenting and other hard labour stuff. I can´t wait,- it will be just great and it´ll do me much good as well, because you know it is alright to cross the river once in a while and do something completely different and enjoy the view on the other side. When I am done with that I will sit down and write the best song in the world.  He-he,- pretty optimistic but who knows?!?

Life is good my friends, even when it is a little slow in this music thing of mine. Can´t  you just feel how spring and summer are lurking around the next corner, waiting to surprise us with some wonderful new adventures! I can hardly wait and I am for sure gonna embrace it all with arms wide open...

Hope you will too !!!        Lots of love - Eirikur
